PRETORIA, 1 FEBRUARY 2017 – The South African National AIDS Council’s Board of Trustees today announced the appointment of Dr. Malega Constance Kganakga as acting CEO, effective 1 February to 30 April 2017. Dr. Kganakga is currently Executive Manager of the SANAC unit responsible for the National Strategic Plan.
The Board of Trustees has set up a transparent and publicly accountable process for filling the post of the CEO led by its Remuneration Committee, which will ensure that the recruitment process concludes within the next two months.
“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank previous CEO Dr. Fareed Abdullah for the significant contribution he has made to SANAC over the last five years. He has led SANAC through a transformation which has strengthened the organisation. We have a talented team that has successfully executed our strategic plan and will continue to serve as a strong foundation for the future,” said Dr. Gwen Ramokgopa, SANAC Board Chairperson.
The Board is committed to an orderly leadership transition and has mandated the Board Chairperson and two other Trustees to work with the acting CEO in managing the handover period as well as ensuring the ongoing business continuity of SANAC.
Stakeholders including government and civil society have been briefed on this recruitment process, and look forward to supporting the acting CEO through this critical period of transition.
