DEPUTY PRESIDENT DAVID MABUZA TO LEAD THE LAUNCH OF THE NATIONAL
YOUTH HIV PREVENTION STRATEGY
PRETORIA, 27 June 2022: Deputy President David Mabuza in his capacity as the Chairperson of the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC), will lead the official launch of the National Youth HIV Prevention Strategy and Campaign in Vhembe District, Limpopo on Thursday, 30 June.
The launch serves as the culmination of all youth month activities.
The strategy will be driven through a robust communications campaign over a three-year period from the year 2022 to 2025. It emphasises the need for youth-led approaches in the development, coordination and operationalisation of key youth interventions.
Furthermore, the strategy seeks to reach all young people in their diversity to ensure that adolescent boys and young men, youth with disabilities and youth living with HIV are not left behind in the country’s response to HIV, TB and STIs.
The development of the strategy has been guided by priorities outlined in various policy documents such as the National Development Plan 2030, the National Adolescent and Youth Health Policy, the current National Strategic Plan for HIV, TB and STIs: 2017 – 2022, the National Youth Policy 2020 – 2030 as well as a robust youth-led consultative processes coordinated by SANAC.
Deputy President Mabuza will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo; Premier of Limpopo, Mr Stanley Mathabatha, SANAC Civil Society Chairperson, Ms Steve Letsike and representatives from development partners inclusive of United Nations Agencies, civil society movements and the private sector.
