South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) held its first wellness day, under the theme, “Your Health is Your Wealth”, to provide programmes to develop and maintain healthy, dedicated, responsive and productive employees.
Activities over the two days included screening and testing for a range of non-communicable diseases and cancers prostate cancer, breast cancer and high-blood pressure to mention a few. Assessments and tests were also done for cholesterol, Body Mass Index, as well as eye and hearing screening. A financial expert was invited to provide much-needed guidance advise on how to efficiently manage one’s finances. At the end of it all, a soothing massage and goodie bag was given to employees as both motivation and reward for their full engagement with the Wellness Day programme.
Commenting on the initiative, Nokuthula Ndlela, Senior HR Generalist at SANAC said, “We cannot function without our health. My body and its well-being are my wealth. We need to get into the new year with a positive attitude.” Organised by the Human Resources Unit, the two-day Wellness Day programme at SANAC offices was well-received by the organisation’s staff.
“This was a very positive engagement on wellness for the staff and quite enlightening on financial matters. We also had time to bond with team members from different units and debrief on related work stress management. I look forward to embarking on this wellness journey with the SANAC Team and related upcoming wellness activities,” said Elliot Mabasa from the NSP Implementation Unit.
The HR Unit hopes to have a sustained wellness programme in order to keep staff motivated and most importantly, as well-rounded and healthy human beings.
