PPRETORIA, 28 July 2020 – The South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) wishes the SANAC Co-Chair Ms. Steve Letsike, who has tested positive for the corona virus, a speedy recovery. Ms. Letsike is currently in good spirits and working from home whilst she self-isolates for 10 days and monitors her health. This is in line with the protocols recommended by the National Department of Health Clinical Management for suspected or confirmed COVID-19 disease.
Ms. Letsike is the Chairperson of the SANAC Civil Society Forum and a former Trustee of the SANAC Trust. She also co-chairs the SANAC Plenary, the highest decision-making structure of the Council, alongside Deputy President David Mabuza.
She is currently not incapacitated and we hope she remains as such throughout her recovery period so she could continue to render her support to the work of the Council.
SANAC also extends well wishes to all South Africans infected and affected by the corona virus pandemic and encourages everyone to stay safe.
As the country braces itself for what scientists predict as the peak, it has become more important for all of us to strictly adhere to safety precautions that minimise exposure and a further spread of the virus. Let us continue to wash our hands, wear facemasks in public and practise social distancing.
Let us also ensure that key and vulnerable populations, including the elderly as well as people with comorbidities, are protected during this trying time.
It will take a concerted effort from all of us to beat COVID-19.
